A love of

photos and stories...

(Sasha & Matt, over 16 years ago taking their own portraits on their wedding day)

Sasha fell in love with photography from the moment she got her own Barbie 110 film camera—by college, she'd chosen it as her minor and dove head first into learning how to develop in a darkroom and manipulate digital images with the latest software as the world navigated a transition from film to digital. After graduation, she worked alongside another photographer and eventually went out on her own shooting weddings and portraits. She recruited Matt as her photo assistant and they spent the first few years of their relationship capturing client's most important milestones on digital and spending their free time with film cameras. For years they pursued other careers but that love of photography continued to grow their stacks of prints and a drawer full of memory cards.

Eventually, they found their way back to that love and these days they run Memory Proof to help people organize their own photos from the Emerald coast in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Sasha's Aha Moment

When I was a kid, lightning struck the old two-story farmhouse we lived in. My parents came home while the house was burning—luckily, my brother and I weren't there—and my dad went back in. He carried out our family photos, my mom's wedding china, and he saved the cat. He ended up in the hospital overnight with carbon monoxide poisoning, but our most important possessions made it out. I've thought about what would have happened if the photos hadn't more times than I can count.

So when the LA fires were happening and I heard about the Save Your Photos event put on by The Photo Managers, it hit me hard. It made me actually sit down with my own collection for the first time and realize that despite all of it, my photos weren't in order. We'd taken care of client photos with meticulous backups all those years ago, but our own collection was full of un-scanned prints and wedding photo CDs I couldn't locate. There was a single printed album I'd made for my parents, and none for us. As much as we loved photos, we realized we weren't doing a good job of protecting or enjoying them. But we did have the tools to do so.

That's where Memory Proof started.

The difference you’ll experience

Certified through

The Photo Managers

We are certified through The Photo Managers, the professional organization for this industry. The certification covers the real range of what ends up in a collection: physical prints, film slides, home movies, and digital files of every era. We've put real time into learning how to handle what shows up and how to build something from it worth passing on and have a specialty in photo book design.

In practice, that means working through collections that look nothing like each other. Slides from the 1960s alongside a hard drive nobody's touched since 2011. Photo albums where nobody wrote down who was in the pictures. The work is different every time—and that's the part we're trained for.
